Haunting and luminous, this masterfully written blend of romance, crime, and historical fiction will thrill lovers of turn-of-the-century dramas like Once Upon a Time in America and Gangs of New York.
New York, 1909 Fifteen-year-old Cetta arrives on a freighter with nothing but her infant son Natale strikingly blond, dark-eyed, and precocious. They've fled the furthest reaches of southern Italy with the dream of a better life in America.
But even in the "Land of the Free," the merciless laws of gangs rule the miserable, poverty-stricken, and crime-filled Lower East Side. Only those with enough strength and conviction survive. As young Natale grows up in the Roaring Twenties, he takes a page from his crippled mother's book and finds he possesses a certain charisma that enables him to charm the dangerous people around him ...
Weaving Natale's unusual life and quest for his one true love against the gritty backdrop of New York's underbelly, Di Fulvio proves yet again that he is a master storyteller as he constructs enticing characters ravaged by circumstance, driven by dreams, and awakened by destiny.

The Boy Who Granted Dreams edition by Luca Di Fulvio Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Good read.
Great read that has an unusual ending
Long and leisurely...this "can't put down" book continued to hold my interest to the end. I was sorry it ended. I wanted to keep reading about all the characters in it. This was a wonderful story of early New York. Kudos to the author.
I hesitate to give any book 5 stars that is not a classic or will become one. This star system is very misleading.
However, I gave this one 4 stars because I was so happy reading this. The characters are indelible in my mind,
especially Christmas (what a name) Luminita. I wanted the story to go on forever. The only complaint I had
was the ending (no spoilers) was rather abrupt and seemed like the author did not know how to end it although
intriguing us all along with the story.
With vibrant characters and settings this historical saga begins in Italy in the early 20th century and moves on to New York with an electrifying pace and plenty of action. Well written, it will move you and entice you. The only negative is the title, which if you can get past that, the rest of the book will take you on an adventure ride with characters that come alive and that you can care about. With real people mixed in with the fictional ones, it has an authenticity which seems historically accurate. Just the kind of fast paced plot you can sink your teeth into. Not to be missed.
Loved this story and how the author weaved back in forth to different years & places. A well told story where the characters became so well defined with subtle nuances where the reader becomes connected to their emotions, tendencies, powers, challenges, failures and triumphs! Christmas and his relationship with his mom, Sal, Santo, Joey, Arnold Rothstein and of course the love of his life Ruth. His anger towards Ruth's tormentor, Bill became a fear that lurked in both of them. All in all I loved this story and the era it took place in, the 20's in New York City. A book you couldn't put down. Thank you Luca Di Fulvio!
From the streets of the Lower East Side, to Brownsville, up town and to Hollywood, Christmas Luminita captivates young and old, good and bad with his stories.
His stories about his gang--The Diamond Dogs--may be exaggerated but never false. With his friend Santo, whom he saves from the life as a criminal because he lacks the skill, and Joey in whom he sees evil, Christmas chooses to take a low-paying job in the nascent radio industry. His goal is to reach Ruth, a girl he rescued from being nearly murdered.
A heart-warming story of two injured souls finally united by love and strength.
